When the Farm Bill became law in early 1996, our name changed to USDA
Rural Development. We were known as Farmers Home Administration (FmHA)
for more than 60 years and then became Rural Economic and Community
Development (RECD) for a short time. With the new name came a new
mission area focusing on Rural Development programs, providing financial
and technical assistance to improve the quality of life in rural
America. Our programs consist of a variety of loan, loan guarantee, and
grant programs, plus technical assistance in the areas of business and
industry, cooperative development, rural housing, community facilities,
water and waste disposal, electrification and telecommunications,
including distance learning and telemedicine.
The Maryville Local Office administers agency programs for the
counties of Atchison, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth.
