COLUMBIA, Mo. – Wendy Brumbaugh of Bethel received the Carl N. Scheneman Excellence in Teaching Award from University of Missouri Extension.

Brumbaugh, extension family financial education specialist, was recognized for “Preparing for the Long Haul,” a personal-finance curriculum she created for nursing students at Hannibal Career and Technical Center. The 10-month course was in response to the high rate of student loan defaults among licensed practical nursing students. The 2009 school year marks the second year the program will be offered to students.

The teaching award is named for Carl N. Scheneman of Columbia, retired director of extension. Scheneman established the endowment, which provides $2,000 for professional development, to recognize faculty whose programs meet a critical need.
