PLATTSBURG, Mo.— Teens participating in a University of Missouri Extension 4-H equine trip will be the focus of an upcoming episode of “Ag Lifestyles,” a weekly program on the RFD-TV network.
The program, which will be broadcast at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, features the 4-H’ers as they meet and interview a variety of equine specialists in the Stephenville, Texas, area.
Some of the professionals included noted embryologist Brad Stroud and Craig Cameron, renowned horsemanship clinician, said Debbie Davis, MU Extension 4-H youth specialist in Plattsburg.
The tour, which took place in late May, took the 51 participants to destinations in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, where they learned about quarter horse racing, boot making, Western art, horse training and breeding, and rodeos. The teens spent the last part of the trip at a working cattle ranch in the Flint Hills region of Kansas.
This annual trip has been a popular and valuable learning experience for Missouri 4-H teens. “In evaluations of the trip, the teens highly value the wide variety of opportunities to explore equine-related careers,” Davis said.
The 2010 trip will focus on equine careers and the horse industry in Colorado and Nebraska.

The program will repeat Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m. and Sept. 13 at 10:30 p.m.
RFD-TV is available through a number of cable and satellite television providers, including Mediacom, DirecTV, Dish Network, Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
