COLUMBIA, Mo. – Artist Seth Ritter brought his artwork to the University of Missouri Extension Summers @ Mizzou’s first “Through Artists’ Eyes” camp.  He says he took away a new understanding of the many types of art experiences available at MU and new friendships with other young artists across the state.

Ritter was the first scholarship winner to attend the camp through MU Extension’s Community Arts Pilot Project at his hometown of Lexington, where he will be a senior in high school this fall. He is already a budding artist who transforms discarded items into art and is a core member of the group transforming Lexington into a haven for artists.

The four-day workshop gave campers the opportunity to work in several mediums and take tours of MU’s art museums.

Participants learned the art of papermaking in a fibers workshop and then printed posters on the paper they made using letterpress printers.

“It was a great opportunity for me,” said Ritter. He said the camp exposed him to a variety of art mediums and people who enriched his life.

Ritter said he also became aware of the variety of educational opportunities for would-be artists at MU. “I loved being on campus,” he said.

Through the two-year Community Arts Pilot Project at Lexington, MU Extension specialists work to take the resources and expertise of the campus into communities and return community resources to campus.
