Roasting chestnuts, Dec. 14

    Roasting chestnuts

Don’t just sing about chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Grab this nutritious treat and your friends and family and roast away.

It’s easy with these five steps.

    1. Make a deep slit across the center of the rounded side. Specialized knives are available for this.

    2. Prepare a charcoal fire on your grill.

    3. Place up to 3 pounds of chestnuts in a microwave-safe blow. Cover with wet paper towel and cook for 3 to 5 minutes per pound.

    4. Put scored nuts in a stainless-steel wok or cast-iron skillet and place on grilling rack.

    5. Roast for 20 minutes, turning frequently. Once cooled, nuts are easy to peel. Note: Chestnuts can also be roasted in five to ten minutes on a bonfire with a long-handled metal pan.
