Search For Century Farms

The search is on again for Missouri farms that have been in the same family 100 years or more. These farms will be recognized in the Missouri Century Farm Program, which was first launched into the bicentennial year of 1976. In the 1976 program, 2,850 Missouri farm owners were recognized as owning a centennial farm. Last year, 186 farms join in the program. Morgan county had 4 farm and Moniteau had 0 farms in the year 2006. Since this program started Morgan County has 54 Century Farms and Moniteau County has 58 Century Farms.

To qualify as a Missouri Century Farm, it must meet these guidelines: The same family must have owned the farm for 100 years or more as of December 31, 2007. The family shall consist of direct descendants only. The farm must be a least 40 acres of the original land and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. The web site: http://outreach.missouri.edu/centuryfarm/ includes the history of the program, guidelines, application form and highlights several farms from previous years.
