Jest for the Health of It

Sherry Nelson, University Outreach and Extension

To relieve stress, try making your own professional humor survival kit with any of the following items:

Positive Mental Attitude -- you make the choice to smile or frown; to be cheerful or grumpy; to compliment or complain. Attitude is a lifestyle.

Rubber Band -- you will stretch your limits, your patience, your flexibility, your endurance. Make sure you have an anchor, that is, a mentor or confidant, to catch you when you snap back...to strengthen you and build you up.

Cotton Swab -- clear you ears and listen well to you clientele and peers, to your supporters and your non-supporters.wpe2.jpg (2194 bytes)

Stick of Gum -- to give you "stick-to-itiveness."

Band Aid --if you break something fix it the best you can. Admit mistakes, apologize and heal. Mistakes are stepping stones.wpe1.jpg (2146 bytes)

Paper Clip -- to hold yourself together when your world is falling apart.

Lollipop -- to help you lick your problems.

Tootsie Roll -- to help you roll with the punches.wpe3.jpg (1576 bytes)

Mint -- to help you realize that you are worth at a "mint" to others.

Balloon -- Get rid of your hot air and anger in the balloon instead of at a person.

Cotton Ball -- to put in your ears when you can’t hear yourself think.

Antacid -- ‘nuff said.
