MEAFCS Board Meeting
Thursday, February 10, 2005
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 12 Noon by Mary Gosche in the Memorial Union, Columbia, MO. Those present were Mary Gosche, Janet LaFon, Maude Kelly, Phyllis Flanigan, Terry Egan, Judy Lueders, Glenda Kinder, Diana Milne, Annette Fitzgerald, Jinny Hopp, Lynda Johnson, Karen Elliott, Sara Lee Jamison, and Jane Hunter.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: The MEAFCS minutes from the December 15, 2004 CENTRA meeting were approved as presented. Lynda made the motion to approve the minutes, Glenda seconded the motion, and it passed.
Financial Report: Kris Jenkins sent copies of a written report showing a balance of $4669.38 on February 1, 2005. There are 36 paid members, with another payment coming soon. Annette made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, Terry seconded the motion, and it passed. The 2005 budget was presented, and Mary explained the changes from the previous year’s budget.
President Elect’s Report: Maude Kelly reported that she Maude Kelly attended the JCEP conference in Milwaukee. The theme was “Getting from Good to Great” on talking to stake holders.
Committee Reports
Awards and Recognition Phyllis Flanigan
Phyllis reported that a committee representative has been chosen from all parts of the state. Phyllis handed each person present a list of the awards available for 2005. There are two new awards this year. February 28 will be the deadline for award entries, and Ms. Flanigan encouraged all members to apply for awards. Incentives may be offered in the form of small stipends to award winners that attend NEAFCS Annual Conference. Mary Gosche has a disk with entry forms for the awards if anyone has trouble accessing the forms on the web.
Professional Development Sherron Hancock
Sherron was not able to attend.
Membership Resources Wendy Brumbaugh
Wendy sent a written report that she has not had a meeting to promote membership this year. She will ask those who served on the committee last year and invite new faces to brainstorm ways to increase membership. The committee will continue to use the resources on the web page and the membership brochure. Wendy request input on new ideas.
Public Affairs Terry Egan
The “Living Well” display was sent out and the postage was $5.50. MEAFCS will send the display to anyone needing it, but the user will have to pay the return postage. Terry reminded the committee to contact legislators about “Living Well” week in March., since half of the congress must sign on to get the week officially designated.
Old Business
Janet LaFon reported that the balance of the National Meeting Account was $8,935.67 on 12/2/2004. It was the recommendation of the committee composed of Kris Jenkins, Mary Gosche, and Janet LaFon to purchase three certificates of deposit: one for $3,000, and two for $2,000 each. The $3,000 and one of the $2,000 were to be purchased at the highest interest rate available, without consideration of the term. The other $2,000 certificate was to be the highest rate available in the 9 to 15 month term range. Rebecca Travnichek is willing to continue handling these funds, so she will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining these CD’s plus the checking account. Rebecca reported on 2/2/2005 that she has purchased the following certificates of Deposit for the Association:
37 month CD #1 @ 3.55% $3,000
37 month CD #2 @ 3.55% $2,000
13 month CD#3 @ 3.15% $2,000
This leaves a checking account balance of $1,940.53.
It was reported that the NEAFCS Foundation Endowment Fund has set a goal of $300,000. A discussion was held on whether to contribute. Jinny Hopp asked if we were going to honor past National Presidents from the MO affiliate. Diana Milne made a motion to donate $1,000 to the foundation in recognition of past National presidents and others that are or have served as National board members. The motion was seconded by Lynda Johnson seconded the motion, and it passed.
New Business
Sandy Stegall has made $500 available to MEAFCS to send a representative to the PILD Conference There is also money in the MEAFCS budget. A representative is still being sought.
Mary Gosche asked if anyone had suggestions for the State’s Night Out Dinner during the NEAFCS Annual Conference in Philadelphia. The conference runs from September 25 to 28, 2005. Diana Milne is the chairwoman for the exhibits, and would appreciate help.
The next meeting will be held in April via CENTRA.
A motion was made by Jinny to adjourn, seconded by Glenda, and passed . the meeting was adjourned at 12:55 PM.
