Committee Reports
Awards and Recognition Phyllis Flanigan
Four committee members have been identified, but additional members from regions not currently represented on the committee will be sought. The Awards packet from NEAFCS should arrive in early January 2005, and the MEAFCS members will be notified around the twenty fourth of January. Only one award was applied for last year, so Phyllis is looking for ways to increase participation. Incentives may be offered.
Member Resources Sherron Hancock
Sherron was not able to attend, but asked the members to be thinking about what type of professional development would be helpful.
Public Affairs Terry Egan
The “Living Well” display is shown on the web, but there have been no requests for the use of the display yet. Terry will remind the members periodically about the display. Another display can be purchased for $220., but the need for another display will be assessed before purchasing additional units. Terry reminded the committee to contact legislators about “Living Well” week in March. Terry adapted the “Living Well” PSAs to Missouri, and they were sent to members via e-mail and are posted on the web. Terry will periodically add additional “Living Well” resources to the web site.
Old Business
Janet LaFon reported that the by-law changes that were approved at the last meeting have been posted on the web. Article 3, Section 10 had the old dues amount listed, so Janet also corrected that on the web.
Mary Gosche, Janet LaFon, and Kris Jenkins are looking at options for the MEAFCS 2002 Account. Mary and Janet were considering getting three CDs at the highest rate available in varying amounts to prevent losing all of the interest, if some of the money were needed before the CDs expired. A decision on where to get the CDs and who to delegate as the keeper of the CDs has not been determined.
A vote was taken to table a decision on the NEAFCS Foundation endowment until February.
New Business
There were some questions about the Actual Income on the 2004 budget. Mary will confer with Kris Jenkins. The proposed 2005 budget was discussed. Maude Kelly stated that she might not need the $650 allotted for the President-Elect trip to NC Regional work shop, since the airline tickets were cheaper than anticipated. Janet Lafon asked if the “Living Well” display postage costs come from the postage or the Public Relations account. Terry Egan replied that the postage will be paid to send the display, but the person using the display will be responsible for the return postage. Janet suggested moving $50 from the regional meeting account to create a line item under Public Relations for one way postage. Mary Gosche pointed out that this is a deficit budget, however there are sufficient funds to cover the budget. In the future fund raising may be necessary. The budget was accepted with the change.
Representation at the PILD meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. on April 17 to 20, 2005, was discussed. Maude Kelly has a conflict with MELD. Terry Egan can not attend. Terry Egan suggested paying part of Nancy Flood’s expenses to represent MEAFCS as well as ESP. Janet asked about other members of Terry’s committee, since $200 of a first time attendee will be paid by NEAFCS. It was suggested Judy Lueders be asked to attend PILD, since she is on the NEAFCS Public Relations Committee. Janet and Terry looked to see when a decision on PILD had to be made, and determined that it could be handled in the February meeting. This should allow time to apply for the NEAFCS funds for first-time attendees, and get the early bird registration.
The next meeting will be at the HES in-service in February. Mary wants to have a face-to-face meeting. The time will be announced after the in-service schedule is released.
