Draft MEAFCS Board Meeting - September 12, 2003 by teleconference

 

Present: Glenda Kinder, Janet LaFon, Jinny Hopp, Janet Hackert, Judy Lueders, Rebecca Travnichek, Kris Jenkins, Jo Britt Rankin.

 

Call to Order by Glenda Kinder at 10:00 am.

Treasurer's Report filed. Balance on hand $5793.52

President’s Report                                                            Glenda Kinder

Associate Dean’s search was put on hold.  Jo Britt Rankin will continue to serve as Interim, as well as an Interim on Research side. 

 

Vice President’s Report                                                Janet LaFon

Board appointments in progress, will attend appropriate events at Galaxy II.

 

Committee Reports

Awards & Recognition                              Janet Hackert

Five awards at State Level were announced at closing of HES meeting in April. 

Two awards will be presented at Galaxy II during Regional meetings (Mary Gosche and Glenda Kinder).  All awards and what they mean will be posted on Web site. 

 

Professional Development                          Sherron Hancock

Missouri Galaxy will begin on November 18 with lunch and continue with an evening banquet followed by group meetings.  On the 19th meetings will be held in the morning.  The Galaxy will conclude with lunch.  Windermere people are working with committee on prices - rooms about $80.00 each - up to 5 people per room.  Kathy Griggs Newton, a Platte County Extension council member, will lead the keynote and 2 break out sessions.  Other topics will include benefits, Agriculture programs, retirement planning.  UO/E will buy at least one lunch.  UMEA has $2500.00 for event. The registration will include meals.  People may register for either one or two days.  Challenge activities at Windermere are available.  Sherron proposes that MEAFCS make a contribution for expenses for speakers ($500.00).

We have 2 new staff interested in joining our association.  The media campaign is quiet at the moment.  Tammy will report to members within the week.

Requested PSA’s for Cape Girardeau TV station.

Communiqué had issues for changes; the associate membership was at core of them.  Electronic communications also addressed.  No action needed at this time.  Follow up will be needed if action is taken.  Janet and Glenda will represent MEAFCS at Galaxy to vote.  Discussion of how membership for non-degreed people would affect Missouri employees.  Jo Britt Rankin agreed that we could manage the non-degreed people in our state organization.

National Galaxy Conference

                        40 – 45 Missourians going several administrators - Jo Britt will assist in determining who is going… We want all to attend State’s Night Out – September 23rd; Lion’s House; 6 – 6:30 gather at hotel or Lion’s House; dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Wilma Jean needs help to decorate tables 2 hours prior to Sunday evening meal and Wednesday noon meal at Galaxy.

 

Tammy moved and Judy seconded that we spend funds to make a “writing” item for silent auction… up to $15.00…Motion carried.

 

New Business

Ø      Missouri Galaxy - proposal for up to $500. contribution from MEAFCS to MO Galaxy as per committee report.  Funds would be used for speaker expenses.  Janet LaFon seconds.  Motion approved.  Submit bills to Rebecca for payment from the National meeting funds.

Ø      Tammy Roberts suggests that our members be supported with some of our association funds.  Rebecca, Sherron move that our association pay registration fee for each member who wishes to attend MO Galaxy.  Motion carried. 

 

Annual Meeting Officers will be installed.  Must have ½ of membership as quorum for annual meeting.  Electronic elections will be held by electronic mail prior to meeting. 

 

Nominating Committee Mary Gosche for President Elect and Kris Jenkins as Treasure.

 

Audit Glenda has asked Carole Bosworth to conduct an audit.

 National meeting fund balance – need to decide what to do with funds for longer term
