By-Laws
MEAFCS Vice-President for Awards and Recognition/Committee Duties
1. Prepare Plan of Work and present at Nov/Dec MEAFCS Board meeting and to MEAFCS President.
2. Conduct at least one meeting of your committee - by email, conference call, or other suitable method.
3. Attend National Meeting and participate in your committee workshop. This is critical as next year's packet and instructions are given at that workshop. If you cannot attend, get a commitment from another committee member or state member who would attend the workshop and report back to you or new chairman. Notify committee of new information you receive that they need to know. Forward copies of workshop materials to State President immediately following National Meeting.
4. Keep a notebook with up-to-date information and materials and have ready to turn over to your successor at appropriate time.
5. Submit a written report to Secretary of MEAFCS at each Board Meeting for permanent record.
6. Confirm with treasurer the names of MEAFCS members as of February 1 of the current year.
Feb. 1 - Must be member by Feb 1 to receive awards. Determines the number of potential awards for those categories based on membership (ex. DSA, Continued Excellence, etc.)
7. Review selection criteria for all awards. Use the latest Awards Book or check the NEAFCS website for latest information.
8. Inform members of eligibility for specific awards.
9. State deadlines are 30 days ahead of Regional/National deadlines
10. Determine appropriate selection process for each category of awards.
11. State/National Awards listed in Awards Book or on NEAFCS website.
12. Missouri only Awards:
Friend of MEAFCS
Professional Achievement (2 to 10 years of employment (May want to add membership in MEAFCS also)
13. Encourage members to apply for other awards such as:
Farm Bureau Outstanding Home Economist Award
UMEA Awards
Vice-Presidents Award
Carl Schneman Award
Teamwork Award
14. Confer/work with UMEA Awards Committee responsible for Awards ceremony and brochure at Annual Joint Association Awards Ceremony.
15. Mail all state winner applications appropriate for Regional and National Awards by appropriate deadline - has been April 1 each year - double-check date.
16. The President-Elect will select a Vice-President-Elect to serve as a member of the current committee.
MEAFCS Vice-President for Professional Development/Committee Duties

6. Promote National meeting attendance. Coordinate tours and/or group dinner - State's Night Out - for members attending National meeting.
7. Encourage members to apply for awards and recognition opportunities.
8. Encourage members to use Extension Loan and Fellowship Funds and Study opportunities.
9. Plan professional development activities and other special events for members - may include PIE's or PDE's; banquet at Annual Conference; Spring meeting; or retreat.
10. Serve as liaison with other extension association professional development committee chairmen.
11. Encourage members to apply to present workshops, concurrent sessions, showcase exhibits, etc. at NEAFCS and other professional meetings.
12. Consider building coalitions with other professional organizations and secure appropriate professional development credits for sponsored activities.
13. Encourage members to apply for certification in their subject matter.
14. Encourage members to conduct research projects and report significant findings to the membership at MEAFCS and NEAFCS meetings and submit reports/articles to NEAFCS publications.

MEAFCS Vice-President for Public Affairs/Committee Duties

6. Challenge members to become actively involved in Public Affairs and complete the NEAFCS Public Affairs Challenge.
7. Serve as MEAFCS liaison for UMEA Legislative Day including marketing strategies for the organization.

MEAFCS Vice-President for Member Resources/Committee Duties

7. Obtain from MEAFCS Treasurer current membership records.
8. Contact any non-renewing member for reconsideration as well as contact new employees to encourage membership.
9. Invite retiring colleagues to become Life Members.
10. Prepare and edit MEAFCS Newsletter and send by electronic methods/web when possible.
11. Work with Awards and Recognition Chairman to publicize award recipients accomplishments.
12. Publicize accomplishments of the organization.
13. Make recommendations to the Board related to unique needs of individual members, diversity issues and special interest groups. (Ex. Mentoring, needs of new members, etc.)
14. Encourage members to submit articles to the Communiqué and Reporter.
15. Keep members informed about the "Image Enhancement" project of NEAFCS.
16. Market MEAFCS/NEAFCS.
17. The President-Elect will select a Vice-President-Elect to serve as a member of the current committee.
MEAFCS Chairman/Committee Duties
1. Secure nominations for offices and hold elections for State Officers. Nominations due August 1. Election will be at the annual meeting or via e-mail prior to annual meeting.
2. The Nomination Committee will be chaired in even-numbered years by the Treasurer and uneven-number years by the Secretary. A slate of candidates for officers (two for each position when possible) will be presented to membership by the newsletter or email prior to the annual meeting.
3. The secretary (elected in even years) and treasurer (elected in uneven years) will be elected for 2-year terms.
4. A President-Elect will be elected each year.
5. Secure nominations for the National Nominating Committee. These are elected at the Regional Business meetings held during NEAFCS annual sessions.
6. Encourage candidates for National Offices.

7. Encourage members to serve on NEAFCS Standing Committees.
1. Chairman of the committee is the Past President of MEAFCS.
2. Review By-Laws annually. Propose recommended changes to the membership at annual meeting. Notice to be given 10 days in advance.
3. Provide copies of updated By-Laws for officers and committee chairpersons.
4. Review Standing Rules and propose recommended changes to the MEAFCS Board for approval.
5. Review duties of elected officers and appointed vice-presidents and other committee chairs and propose recommended changes to the MEAFCS Board for approval.
