Hi Lonesome Chapter

The Missouri Master Naturalist program is an adult community-based education and volunteer service program designed to promote awareness and citizen stewardship of natural resources. Affiliated with the University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the program began in the spring of 2004.

The Hi Lonesome Chapter was formed in 2008 and is based in Cole Camp, Missouri. Chapter members are residents of Benton and Pettis Counties.

December 5 & 6 (Just for fun) The first of five MDC sponsored Eagle Days Events. Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, near Mound City, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 816-271-3100 for more information. The Conservation Department provides binoculars and spotting scopes for eagle viewing. Warm clothing is a must, since damp, windy conditions often prevail around large bodies of water in the winter. Indoor naturalist programs with live eagles offer a chance to warm up and learn more about eagles and other birds of prey.

December 9, 9 a.m. to Noon.
Missouri Prairie Foundation/ MDC Prairie Fork Conservation Area, Callaway County. Volunteers will help with prairie restoration work, which may include fence removal, broadcast seeding, transplanting, and invasive plant removal. Wear protective clothing and bring gloves. Cole Camp Prairies IBA, 110th Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Cole Camp, :30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Participants will meet at The Classic (restaurant on Hwy 52, north of downtown area) at 7:30 AM.  We will organize our quadrants and begin birding as soon as possible. At 5:30 p.m., we'll gather and tally the group counts. $5 registration fee may be paid the morning of the count. Fees go to the Audubon Society to defray the cost of the final tabulation and report for each Circle's official count. Participation is open to the public.
