Annual Meeting

Special guest present was Chuck Schwartau, NACAA North Central Region Vice Director, University of Minnesota Extension. In attendance: Mary Sobba, Don Day, Marcia Shannon, Joni Ross, Randa Brunkhorst, Tom Fowler, Jim Humphrey, Tim Baker, Mark Stewart, Karisha Devlin, Amie Schleicher, Bob Schultheis, Rick Mammen, Eldon Cole, Bruce Beck, Ted Probert, Mark Stillwell, Randy Saner, Gordon Carricker, Dave Whitson, Joe Koenen, Matt Herring, Todd Lorenz, Kevin Hansen, Parman Green, Bev Coberly, Wendy Flatt, Bud Reber, Julie Middleton
President Parman Green called the meeting of the Missouri Agricultural Extension Professionals to order at 7:21 p.m.
Minutes: Randy Saner moved and Kevin Hansen seconded a motion to approve the minutes as posted on the MAEP website. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Kevin Hansen gave the treasurer’s report. He said that the organization is looking at a loss of $45 for the year. We have 73 members. Travel is up a little over last year. A scholarship fundraiser provided $247 for NACAA. He asked for two volunteers to do an audit of the year’s books. Kevin asked for any recommended changes to the budget. It was recommended that the travel budget be increased to $2,000. We have $4,144.48 in the checkbook. Marcia Shannon moved and Mark Stewart seconded a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
Parman indicated that MAEP should be receiving $750 from the Michigan group for reaching attendance goals at the NACAA national meeting.
It was reported that the silent auction held during the Galaxy conference netted $354.
Awards: Mary Sobba and Don Day made presentations for awards. Achievement Awards went to Marcia Shannon and Distinguished Service Awards went to Randy Saner and Bob Broz.
Jim Humphrey spoke about his experiences as a first time attendee at the NACAA annual meeting in Grand Rapids, MI.
Regional Representatives: We will have four regional reps rotating off this year. They are:
David Whitson - Southwest region Gordon Carriker agreed to replace David.
Randy Saner – Central region
Bruce Beck – Southeast region
Tom Fowler – Northwest region
Association History: Mary Sobba plans to develop historical information about MAEP and use the webpage to make the information available to the group. If anyone has information to share they should send it to Mary.
State Specialist Update: Marcia Shannon reported that the State Specialist group meets twice each year.
Outstanding Young Farmer: Mary Sobba reported that her nomination has made the top 25 in the United States and will be advancing to the next level of evaluation.
Nominations Committee: Todd Lorenz reported that Kevin Hansen agreed to run again for Treasurer if no other candidate stepped forward. Mark Stewart moved and Randy Saner seconded to cease nominations. Motion carried. Randy Saner moved and Joe Koenen seconded to accept Kevin as our Treasurer by acclamation. Motion carried. Todd reported that Karisha Devlin and Russell Ramsey agreed to run for the position of secretary. Ballots were distributed and members voted.
New Business: Chuck Schwartau made a report from the NACAA as the director for the North Central Region. Some of the items he focused on included:
Secretary Election: Todd Lorenz reported that Karisha Devlin was elected to be the new MAEP secretary.
Todd Lorenz told the members present that he is considering entering the race for the North Central Vice President position. He has gained approval from administrators and will be looking for help in his bid.
Bev Coberly reported that the 2008 University of Missouri Extension annual conference will be held in the fall.
David Whitson moved and Mary Sobba seconded to send one person to JCEP and that should be the president. Motion carried.
Randy Saner moved and Mary Sobba seconded to use money from the silent auction for National meeting support. Motion carried.
Amie Schleicher presented Parman Green with a plaque for his term as president. She noted that he had done a terrific job providing strong leadership for the organization. Parman passed the gavel to Amie.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
