Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by President Parman Green at 7:14 a.m. Tim Schnakenberg moved to approve the minutes of the last meeting as posted on the MAEP website. Marsha Shannon seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Kevin Hansen presented the Treasurer’s report. We have 72 paid members. Total income is $5,364.38 and total expenses are $5,719.48. Dave Whitson moved to approve the treasurer’s report. Gordon Carriker seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Ag Leader Award
Tim Schnakenberg reported on the Ag Leader award given by MAEP. He encouraged the membership to make nominations for this award.
State Specialist Report
Marcia Shannon reported on the state specialist organization and told members that the group meets once each semester. She said she would be looking for topics that might be of interest for state specialists for the Galaxy conference this fall.
Awards
Parman announced that winners of the Distinguished Service Award this year were Bob Broz and Randy Saner. The Achievement Award goes to Marcia Shannon and Ray Davis received the Hall of Fame award.
JCEP and PILD
Amie Schleicher made a report on her JCEP and PILD meetings. A major discussion point for the JCEP meeting is the internationalizing of Extension. She said that the PILD conference allowed Extension faculty, administration and Extension Council members to have contact with legislators. There was also discussion of an electronic journal just for NACAA members.
AMPIC
Parman reported on the 2007 NACAA meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Missouri is in charge of a break on Sunday night. We will serve Tiger Strip ice cream and other refreshments. Several members will be needed to help haul the ice cream to Grand Rapids. Members will also be needed to help serve the refreshments Sunday evening. Karisha Devlin has been instrumental in putting together the break. Tom Payne, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Michael Ouart, Director of Extension are providing the funding for this break. We will have three voting delegates at the meeting – they will be President Parman Green, President Elect Amie Schleicher and Past President Todd Lorenz. We will need to submit names for state chairs at the national meeting.
Guest Speaker
Pat Guinan was a guest speaker for the meeting. He presented information on weather events this spring including the Easter Freeze and flooding on the Missouri River.
Young Farmer Award
Dan Downing presented information about the Young Farmer Award. This award is handled by the NACAA Ag Issues and Public Relations committee. He reported that the Jaycees involvement has declined in recent years and involvement by NACAA has increased. The program has been in place for more than 40 years. Nominations are due by August 1.
Galaxy
Randy Saner reported that there will be a fall Galaxy conference. He indicated that Administration has committed $5000 to the event. He asked for input on locations for the event – either at the Lake of the Ozarks as in the past or moving to Columbia.
Shirt Order
Kevin Hansen reported that Mary Sobba is accepting shirt orders through Tuesday.
Elections this Fall
Parman announced that this fall we will be looking for candidates for the position of Treasurer and Secretary.
Future Summer Event
Parman asked the group to consider whether they would want to work on having a summer event for MAEP that would move around the state by region. He said he would appoint a committee of officers and regional representatives to evaluate this concept.
