News From MACEDEP Members

Highlights of the Annual Meeting

The annual MACEDEP annual meeting and awards banquet was held on October 22, 2019, at the Family Impact Center in Columbia, Missouri.  Guest speaker was Dr. Adam Cletzer, who spoke on adaptive leadership and "Leading with Questions."  Cletzer is with the Agriculture Leadership and Education program at the University of Missouri.

New officers for 2020 were elected:  Chris Kempke will serve as President, Richard Proffer as Vice-President, and Amber Childers as Secretary-Treasurer.

Three awards were bestowed at the meeting:

  • Dean Larkin, Community Economic Development Specialist in Montgomery County, received the Distinguished Service Award.  Dean has served Missouri communities through MU Extension for 27 years, and was previously with the Missouri Department of Economic Development.  Dean's list of accomplishments is lengthy, notable is his leadership in innovative programs and ideas, his mentoring of new faculty, and his status as a respected "go-to" team member.  Dean has announced his retirement for early 2020.
  • John Gulick, Workforce Development Specialist in Osage County, also received the Distinguished Service Award.  While John has only been employed by MU Extension for a few years, he was honored for his 30 years of partnership with MU Extension community development faculty, and his leadership in the community development field on a state and national level.  John has announced his retirement for March 2020.
  • The team behind Missouri EATS (engage - act - transform) was honored with the outstanding program award.  Missouri EATs is a community development process designed to engage people to identify local assets and needs; help them develop a plan to act on their top priorities; and make lasting changes to transform their local food system. Missouri EATs is adapted with permission from the Oregon Food Bank’s FEAST program.  For more information about Missouri EATS, visit:
