Fridays in the lounge at our LeMone facility
To the delight of all, the Friday Film Festival is a popular OLLI membership perk. Bob Dolliver has contributed significantly to the quality of the event with his selections and his outstanding collection of films -- and Dolliver leads discussion following each viewing.
Organized into a " focus on film directors " theme during spring 2008, Dolliver has chosen to explore the film-making art of Australian Paul Cox, American Woody Allen, Japanese Akira Kurosawa, Swede Ingmar Bergman and American Robert Altman. While Dolliver ' s roster concludes with the film to be shown May 30, OLLI Director Lucille Salerno will assume responsibility for the series from that date on.
We promised this feature to you year-round; thus, our intention is to continue the Friday Film Festival in perpetuity. If you wish weekly updates on the film series and reviews of each week ' s selection, it is important that you give us your e-mail address. Our program coordinator, Laura Ward, has taken on the task of issuing film fliers to student members every Monday; you will find them rich with detail and reviews.
Don't miss this opportunity to be fully informed. The alternative to electronic mail is to telephone Adam Newman at 573-882-2585 to secure the same information. The popcorn has been plentiful, and it is likely that we soon will have our own popcorn machine. Quality films -- classics -- are all we have and all we offer. Folks say, " It's another OLLI ' class act. ' " So come see for yourself -- 12:30 p.m. every Friday.
Remember, please, the film series is a "MEMBERS' ONLY" event.
Bring a sandwich and chat with whoever is available at the round tables while enjoying special "brown bag" events. Nourish yourself socially and invest in learning!
Earthquakes
Time
11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dates
June 9
Description
The April 19, 2008 earthquake that rattled West Salem, Indiana, brought us to talk excitedly about the phenomenon. Excitement evolved into concern, which, in turn, led to a wish to understand more about this wonder of the Earth. A colleague pulled up a map from the Web depicting the locations of tremblers that had struck the very same week. The number was impressive. Gratefully, OLLI is graced with an ‘almost resident’ geologist. An invitation was all that was needed. Professor Freeman will draw upon his Environmental Geology expertise to increase our understanding of earthquakes.
