Uncorked in the Country: A Women's Agriculture Discovery Tour

graphic: Women landowners barn“Uncorked in the Country: A Women’s Agricultural Discovery Tour” will be held Thursday, June 5.

The event will start with sign-in at 2 p.m. at Fahrmeier Farms (9300 Mitchell Trail, Lexington). At 2:30 participants will begin their tours.

During the High Tunnels-High Potential Tour participants will discover the benefits of growing vegetables and fruits in high tunnel structures. They will learn how to extend the growing season and modify the plant environment and learn what it takes to build and maintain a high tunnel for use in specialty crop production. On the Uncorking the Sun’s Potential Tour participants will learn the ins and outs of a solar panel system and discover how farm-scale renewable energy and conservation can reduce farm energy costs and help the environment. During the Matchmaking 101 Tour participants will discover how to match the best wine to serve with different foods. After the Fahrmeier Farms Tours, participants will travel to La Bella Winery (11644 Flournoy School Rd, Wellington) to enjoy The Corner of Sunshine and Vine Tour to discover the essential elements of running a successful vineyard. The Vine to Wine Tour is where participants will get an overview of the management-intensive wine-making process from start to finish. After the tours there will be a short presentation from Custom Ag Solutions followed by a catered dinner from Nadler’s Catering. After dinner our Keynote Presentation “Cooking and Life Lessons with the Chicks from the Sticks,” will be presented by Jill Schwalbe-Means.

Participation in the tour is limited to 140 people, so please register as soon as possible. The registration form can be downloaded by clicking the link below. The early-registration fee for the tour is $20 per person. The late-registration fee is $25 per person. The cuttoff for early-registration is May 28. The following payment methods are accepted: cash, check (made payable to MU Extension), or credit card. If you wish to pay by credit card please email LafayetteCo@missouri.edu to request an electronic invoice that can be paid securely online using your card.
