Board Basics: Practical Training for Non-Profit Boards

Nearly every non-profit organization operates under a board of directors.  With the bulk of the organization’s resources going to meet the needs of clients, it can be difficult to provide the necessary training to board members.  And yet the effectiveness of your board can make or break your organization.

Here’s an opportunity to provide affordable training to your non-profit board.  Presented by faculty of  University of Missouri Extension, training is not only credible but interactive as well.  You have the opportunity to select the topics and time frame that meets the unique needs of your organization.

To schedule training for your board, simply contact one of the trainers.  We will work with you to set up training at a time that is convenient for your board members, and help you choose topics that will be of greatest benefit to them.

As an outreach effort of the University of Missouri, we are able to provide this training for only $60 per training hour, including all training materials. Or save by scheduling two sessions for only $100.

Eight Available Sessions:

· Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members  Make sure your board members understand not only what they should do, but what they shouldn’t.  Training reviews key responsibilities of a board and discusses common dilemmas.

· Strategic Planning -Setting Your Vision  Do your board members understand and share your organization’s vision?  This group process will help you celebrate your organization’s past and identify priorities for the future.

· Conducting Effective Meetings  Explore specific strategies to make your meetings more productive and effective.

· Understanding Fellow Board Members Discover your personality style and that of your fellow board members.  Understand how different personality styles affect the work environment, and the unique strengths each brings to your board.

· Generational Differences  Not all workers have the same values.  Today’s work force is comprised of various generations.  Learn how generational differences impact today’s work force.

· Corporate Legalities   We don’t offer legal advice, but we can help your board understand how your Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and  501(c)(3) status impact the operation of your non-profit,  Discussion will include the Sunshine Law and how to comply.

· Managing Conflict  Most boards experience conflict at some time or other.  Learn how to properly manage conflict so that it does not become destructive to your organization.  And you may even learn that  some conflict can be productive.

· Team Building  Fun and interactive, but with specific benefits.  Activities will enhance cooperation among your board members.
