Why Our Project Is Important

Autism is a developmental disorder that affects many children. When a child affected by autism becomes upset or agitated, wearing a weighted vest or lying under a weighted blanket may help him/her to calm down and regain control.

How We Fund Our Project

Many organizations

graciously provide grants to fund our project. They include:

MetLife Foundation

Children's Miracle Network

William T. Kemper Foundation

University of Missouri HEED

Carthage Community Found.

Community Service Clubs

Want More Information?

Making blankets and vests is easy. You can receive free instructions or an instructional video by contacting our project leader at 417-525-4878 or
mumom52@hotmail.com

Blankets and vests can be made from any woven fabric. The blankets are stuffed with old clothing and the vests are weighted with modeling clay. Finished blankets weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. Vests weigh from 5 to 8 pounds. The amount of weight can be adjusted as needed.

We Have Learned:

- to have fun by helping others
- to work cooperatively toward a
   goal
- how developmental disabilities
   affect families
- how to present programs about
   our project
- how to write grant proposals for
   funding
- creating an instructional video is a
   lot of work
- that we can make a positive
   difference in our world
