What Can Be Done Before Saying I Do

Nina Chen, Ph.D.
Human Development Specialist

Research shows unmarried men and women expect they will have life-long marriages. Today's mating culture can make it difficult for singles to achieve this goal. In particular, studies have shown women are more pessimistic and less confident than men about finding the right marriage partner.

A marriage is the blending of two individuals and families. “When two people are in love and start planning their lives together, they may spend more time on wedding preparation than preparing for the marriage and may overlook practical aspects of living together,” says Dr. Nina Chen, University of Missouri human development specialist.

To help individuals gain perspective, University of Missouri Extension is offering a workshop on “What Can Be Done Before Saying I Do?” from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on March 27, 2006, at the Extension Center, 1501 NW Jefferson St., Blue Springs, MO. This workshop will help singles of all ages explore dating and premarital relationships to get a better understanding of what can be done to form a lasting and fulfilling interpersonal connection,” says Chen.

The workshop registration fee is $20. For more information, contact University of Missouri Extension at 816-252-5051.
