Nina Chen, Ph.D. The quality of marriage is important to the well-being of children, adults and society. “Research indicates that mismanaged conflict and negative interaction in marriage predict both marital distress and negative effects on children,” says Dr. Nina Chen, University of Missouri Extension human development specialist. “Some studies suggest the way couples communicate, handle conflict and preserve a sense of being a team are the keys to marital success.” Chen will offer two marriage education workshops at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 1501 NW Jefferson St., Blue Springs, Mo. She says, “These workshops will help participants learn practical strategies to develop communication and conflict resolution skills to produce, protect and sustain a vital partnership.” The one-day Prevention and Relationship Enhancement workshop will be offered from 9 am to 4 pm on a choice of dates: April 22, Aug. 19 and Nov. 4, 2006. The cost is $90 per couple. Couple Communication is a three-part series offered from 6 pm to 8 pm, May 8, 15, and 22, 2006. The fee is $90 per couple. For more information or registration, contact University of Missouri Extension at 816-252-5051.
