RETHINK

How to Deal with Children’s Challenging Behaviors

Working together to build stronger families.

About RETHINK

Although anger is a universal emotion, many people have some difficulty expressing feelings of anger and dealing with them constructively.  It is natural for adults to become angry with their children, but sometimes misusing anger can cause serious problems.

University Outreach and Extension is providing the RETHINK program to help adults use appropriate strategies to deal with anger and children’s challenging behaviors.

RETHINK  is a step-by-step program developed by the Institute for Mental Health Initiatives in Washington, D.C.

RETHINK is a research-based program related to anger management and child abuse.

RETHINK is easy to pick up and use.

RETHINK is proven to be effective by empirical evidence.

RETHINK provides a child development component.

The RETHINK Program is an excellent opportunity to learn how to deal with anger in a safe constructive way and develop better relationships with children.  Participants will learn ways to be better parents, child care professionals and educations by:

  • using more healthy discipline strategies
  • understanding more about child development
  • making sure our expectations are age appropriate
  • managing our anger more effectively.

RETHINK Works!

Colorado State University Cooperative Extension surveyed 300 participants who completed six two-hour weekly classes to practice new skills and found:

  • 97% increased their knowledge about parenting and anger management
  • 97% improved their attitudes about parenting and anger management
  • 97% improved their parenting and anger management behaviors
  • 64% increased their age-appropriate expectations of children
