By Nina Chen, Ph.D. The
Intergenerational Think Tank of Greater Kansas City hosted the
"Building Bridges and Strong Communities" event at the 18th
Samuel Rodgers Health Fair on June 14.
The event successfully reached about 1,300 people of all ages. They
learned from and shared with each other through a variety of activities.
Young
and old practiced Tai Chi and Yoga and did quilting, family tree, cultural
beading, churning butter, and more together.
A short quiz helped people learn more about growing old. The event
not only brought people of all ages and colors together, but also promoted
meaningful intergenerational and multicultural interactions. The
event is a collaborative effort with the Samuel Rodgers Health Fair
Committee and support from the following donors: DFA (Dairy Farmers of
America), Hancock Fabrics – Independence, Bobbie Nicholson, Palestine
Gardens, Palestine North Residents, Cosco Wholesale, Inc.; Linwood Super
foods, Inc.; Camp Fire USA, and Karen Lesmeister.
People who are interested in being involved in future
intergenerational activities, please contact Dr. Nina Chen, University of
Missouri Outreach & Extension at 816-252-5051.
