The MindAlert workshop, “New Ideas for Creative Mental Stimulation” will be offered Oct. 30, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Pioneer Community College, 2700 E. 18th St., Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Ruth Flexman, Academy of Lifelong Learning coordinator at the University of Delaware in Wilmington and a faculty member of the MindAlert Trainer’s Bureau, will lead the workshop. During the morning session, Flexman will demonstrate new ideas for mental stimulation with a group of older adults through a variety of learning experiences that involve both sides of the brain to boost memory. Professionals will also have the opportunity to observe and experience activities that stimulate linguistic, logical, spatial, musical, kinesthetic and personal dimensions of intelligence. The afternoon session will focus on influences between the brain and behavior and a variety of mental workouts. Discussions will provide helpful resources and strategies for promoting mental fitness in a variety of local settings.
