Extension offers child-care training

(BLUE SPRINGS, MO – Feb. 4, 2008) University of Missouri Extension is offering a series of local training classes for child-care providers and early childhood teachers this year. All workshops will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Extension Center, 1501 NW Jefferson St., in Blue Springs.

“Research reveals a strong link between the quality of child care and the professional’s level of training, especially in the areas of children’s social and learning skills and language development,” says Dr. Nina Chen, University of Missouri Extension human development specialist. “Training early childhood teachers and child-care providers to enforce quality work with children is an Extension priority in the community.”

Following is the 2008 training schedule:

·        Child Obesity, Mar. 6;

·        Autism and Children, April 10;

·        Encouraging Young Scientists, May 8;

·        The Joy of Discipline, June 12;

·        Problem-solving with Children, Sept. 11;

·        Food Power Young Adventure, Oct. 9;

·        Self-esteem in Children, Nov. 13; and

·        Children and Stress, Dec. 4.

Participants will receive 2 clock hours after completion of each class; 0.2 Continued Education Units are available. The registration fee is $15 per class or $100 for eight classes per person. For more information or to register, please contact University of Missouri Extension at (816) 252-5051.
