Conquering childhood obesity
(BLUE SPRINGS, MO – Feb. 4, 2008) University of Missouri Extension is partnering with the Jackson County Health Dept. to offer a workshop on Child Obesity from 6 pm to 8 pm., Mar. 6, 2008, at the Extension Center, 1501 NW Jefferson St., in Blue Springs.
“The number of children who are overweight has doubled in the past two to three decades; currently one child in five is overweight,” says Dr. Nina Chen, University of Missouri Extension human development specialist. “The increase in obesity is in both children and adolescents and in all ages, races and gender groups.”
This workshop will teach early childhood teachers and child-care providers ways to reduce childhood obesity and provide resources for them. Participants will receive 2 clock hours after completion of the workshop; 0.2 Continued Education Units are available. The registration fee is $15.
