University of Missouri Extension offers class to strengthen Couple communication skills
(Blue Springs, MO-Feb. 1, 2007) Healthy marriages are important for both adults and their children’s well-being. Healthy marriages do not happen overnight; couples must make the time and commitment to learn the skills needed to make a marriage work. To help in this effort, University of Missouri Extension is offering the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) from 6 pm to 9 pm on April 10 and 17, 2007, at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 1501 NW Jefferson St., Blue Springs, MO.
PREP is a divorce-prevention/marriage enhancement program. The class uses research-based and educational approaches to help engaged, premarital and married couples learn how to identify danger signs; communicate effectively; manage conflicts without damaging closeness; and preserve and enhance commitment, friendship and intimacy.
“Research shows couples who attend the PREP class maintain communication advantages up to five years later, “says Dr. Nina Chen, University of Missouri Extension human development specialist. “They also show lower rates of premarital break-up and divorce.”
The PREP class is a great opportunity to strengthen skills to build and maintain healthy, happy and lasting relationships. The registration fee is $90 per couple. For registration or more information, please contact University of Missouri Extension at 816-252-5051.
