MPA’s Nikodim named '4-H Bridge Builder'

The Missouri Pork Association and MPA Executive Vice President Don Nikodim were honored with the Missouri 4-H Foundation Nelson Trickey 4-H Bridge Builder Award on March 13 in Columbia.

 “The scope of the Missouri Pork Association’s youth outreach is phenomenal, reaching far beyond Missouri 4-H,” said Cheryl Reams, Missouri 4-H Foundation executive director.

Since 1987, the Missouri Pork Association has been a loyal sponsor of Missouri’s delegation to the National 4-H Congress. The Missouri 4-H Foundation has been able to send up to 20 delegates to the national event annually thanks in part to its long-standing partnership with the Missouri Pork Association.

“No other organization serves such a role in helping our young people prepare for the future as 4-H, and I’m grateful that I can be a small part of that process,” said Nikodim. “It’s truly an honor to receive such recognition from the Missouri 4-H Foundation.”

The Nelson Trickey 4-H Bridge Builder Award is presented to individuals or organizations for exceptional service bridging youth and the community.

Data sheets document UM’s impact at the county level

For county-level data on the impact of the University of Missouri System, including MU Extension, go to to find printable one-page PDF files for each county.

County data sheets provide valuable information to share with stakeholders and can help you explain the investment the University of Missouri makes in your county.

Each county data sheet includes the number of students from the county at each of the four campuses; the number of alumni, employees and retirees residing in the county; UM salary and retirement income; and UM state and federal tax revenue. Data sheets also list UM services rendered in the county, including patient services provided by the MU Health System and contacts through MU Extension programs.

Data sheets are also available for U.S. House, state House and state Senate legislative districts.


Latest issue of Friends of Extension now online

The spring 2015 issue of the Friends of Extension newsletter is online. Though written for retirees and donors, active faculty and staff have indicated they really enjoy perusing it. Find out about a quilt day camp in Hamilton, who’s speaking at the retiree meetings in Ozark and Nevada, and why it is important for people to work with the advancement office when they are making planned-giving documents.


Faculty encouraged to apply for 2015 Leadership Development Program

The Office of Talent Management is accepting applications for the UM System Leadership Development Program (LDP). Current and emerging faculty leaders are encouraged to apply. Visit and submit your application by Friday, April 10.

For the past 15 years, LDP has served as a prestigious program supporting an annual cohort of 30-35 faculty leaders who demonstrate the qualities of the University of Missouri name and are representative of the potential of academic learning and growth. Faculty members from all fields, departments, schools and colleges are encouraged to apply. However, due to the competitive nature of the program, not all who apply will be accepted.

Health screening at home? Order your home access kit by April 2

From UM Total Rewards

If you plan on completing your biometric health screening at home instead of on campus or at your own health care provider, order your free home access kit by April 2 to make sure there is enough processing time before the Tier 1 deadline. Complete all three steps of Tier 1 of the 2015 Wellness Incentive by April 30 and earn $150 in your May paycheck.*

To order an at-home screening kit, simply call 1-866-352-4372. A health kit will be delivered to your door. You can prick your own finger, complete the health screening and send the results back in a prepaid envelope. The results will give you information about your risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other medical conditions.

MyExtension training webinars continue

Training has begun for the myExtension – My Program Plans module. MyExtension implementation begins with program planning, which will be available by April 15; program reporting for FY 2016 will be available Sept. 15.

Paula Hudson, Extension Technology and Computer Services, has already held three trainings: cohort, Northwest Region and Northeast Region. Training will continue via Adobe Connect.

“We plan to provide training to faculty and staff in the other regions and anyone else who may need training before April 15,” Hudson says.

Registration for the one-hour training is through the ISE system.

“I have created ISEs for myExtension – My Program Plans,” says Hudson. The training will be delivered via her Adobe Connect room at

“I will be transmitting my Adobe Connect training sessions on April 7 from the West Central regional office, where I will be holding face-to-face training,” Hudson says. “Wayne Prewitt, WC regional director, has opened these trainings to anyone who wants to attend.”


Program Integration webinar, April 6

Faculty and staff who are interested in MU Extension’s program integration efforts can hear updates via Adobe Connect at 4 p.m. on April 6.

Communications and marketing director Dennis Gagnon will start off the meeting by presenting some new marketing materials and showing how they draw from the program integration themes.

At 4:30 p.m., the Global Food Systems team will discuss its work and report on the status of projects; this will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

2015 NTT dossier workshop set for May 13

A one-hour non-tenure-track dossier training workshop is set for 8:30 a.m. May 13. “Key Points: NTT Dossier,” presented via Adobe Connect, is intended for anyone interested in preparing dossiers or who will be writing evaluation letters for candidates, says Johanna Reed Adams, MU Extension community leadership development state specialist.

Individuals planning to submit a dossier for promotion in the fall are strongly encouraged to attend the workshop, Adams says. Register through the ISE system to attend (ISE 232).

“Learn about the guidelines, general information and tips to improving your dossier,” she says. “The voluntary NTT promotion policy is for full-time, non-regular faculty members within MU Extension. This process applies to regional faculty members and to campus faculty members in an academic unit that does not have an NTT process.”

Extension faculty members may apply for one of three ranked positions: assistant extension professional, associate extension professional or extension professional. For faculty members who elect to participate, the NTT promotion system provides a mechanism to recognize extension scholarship and professional growth. Regional and campus faculty members who plan to apply for the next round should discuss their plans with their supervisors as they build their performance expectations for fiscal 2015.

There is also a late-summer NTT workshop, “Tips, Questions and Answers: NTT Dossier,” via Adobe Connect on August 4 at 2 p.m. Registration is also through ISE 232, so be sure to select the correct NTT workshop date when registering.

The next round of applications is due to supervisors by Oct. 1. Contact Adams for answers to questions on the NTT process.


Fee-generation workshops

Workshops have been scheduled to explain additional functions and updates to the Fee-generation Worksheet-Online Tool. Register through ISE up to one week before the workshop. Sessions that do not have at least four registrants will be canceled and registrants will be asked to choose an alternative date.
