Registration open for fall Program Conference

fall conference logo

MU Extension invites you to the fall Program Conference, Oct. 28-30, 2013, at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. With a theme of “The nExt 100 years,” the conference offers an opportunity for faculty and staff engaged in programming to come together to learn about the future of extension.

Agenda and online registration are available at http://muconf.missouri.edu/muext/.

At the conference you can preview new programming, connect and personalize your role in extension’s mission, network with colleagues, and start celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act.

The program will feature a keynote address on the “why” of extension by Daryl Buchholz, KSU Extension associate director. We will delve into that discussion and personalize our position for the future. We will get an overview of MU Extension communications and marketing, and we’ll attend a variety of professional development workshops. Program integration opportunities and banner outcomes also will be presented during the conference.

Professional associations will have an opportunity to meet. You can bid on items at UMEA’s annual silent auction benefiting professional development and test your skills with your colleagues in a trivia night contest. Finally, Rick McGuire — coach, professor, author and motivational speaker — will be the closing speaker.

Extension retirees are encouraged to attend the Monday program beginning with the lunch and a welcome from Michael Ouart and Dr. Buchholz followed by the Epsilon Sigma Phi ice cream social and the retiree meeting.

Ouart appointed to ECOP

MU Vice Provost and Director of Extension Michael Ouart has been appointed to a three-year term on the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP), the governing committee of the nation's Cooperative Extension System.

Ouart was named to the committee by fellow extension directors earlier this month at the 2013 meeting of the North Central Cooperative Extension Association. He will be one of three ECOP members representing the Cooperative Extension System’s North Central region.

ECOP is one of several policy committees (Extension, International Agriculture, Experiment Station, Academic Programs) recommending policy and advising the Board on Agriculture Assembly for the Food, Environment and Renewable Resources Commission of APLU.

Training opportunity on search and Web resources

MU Extension Communications and Marketing and the Missouri eXtension Institutional Team are offering an in-service education (ISE) class for MU Extension staff to learn about resources available on eXtension.org and the MU Extension website. Extension’s social media editor, Maggie Berglund, will teach the class.

“eXtension and Beyond: Finding Resources for Clients” will help MU Extension personnel direct clients to helpful resources. These personnel may not be extension content specialists, but they often receive questions and inquiries from the public.

Participants will learn about search techniques and strategies as well as online resources from MU Extension and eXtension.org.

The ISE, “eXtension and Beyond: Finding Resources for Clients,” will be offered online through Microsoft Lync at three different times:

To register, go to https://extensionapps.missouri.edu/webapps/RegisterISE.aspx.

For questions about the class, contact Maggie Berglund at berglundm@missouri.edu or 573-882-3721.
