Volunteers are needed to staff MizzouCentral, Aug. 13-23, at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, and talk with visitors about MU Extension programs across the state.
Each year, more than 10,000 people pass through the exhibits at the former Mo-Ag Theater, making the fair an ideal venue to promote the university.
This year, MU Extension is coordinating its marketing and promotion efforts to incorporate the fair’s daily themes. Preference will be given to volunteers whose expertise relates to these themes:
State and regional specialists may volunteer for a morning from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. or an afternoon from 1-5:15 p.m. Two-person teams from the same area are encouraged. Volunteers will be reimbursed for admission and mileage, and will receive a $10 voucher for food from select vendors.

The Fellowship and Awards Committee is soliciting nominations for MU Extension’s performance awards for individual and group achievements and for professional development.
“These awards are supported through gifts made to MU Extension,” said Barb Casady, director of development. “Their generosity makes it possible for extension to honor outstanding performance even in tight economic times.”
Eleven different awards will be presented during the Missouri Galaxy Conference. Extension professional associations will host the event in the fall.

Professional development awards from Pat and Tom Buchanan, and Dr. Ronald J. Turner endowments also will be presented.
Nominations and supporting materials must be postmarked by Aug.28 and sent to Janice Perkins in the extension development office.
MU Extenion's Pasture-Based Dairy Progam has shown smaller producers how to compete economically. Since 2004, more than $100 million has been invested in pasture dairies.
University of Missouri Extension employees will begin using a new PeopleSoft Time and Labor module to report their time beginning Nov. 15.
The time and labor module will replace biweekly timesheets and WebApps monthly absence reporting. Supervisors also will use the module to approve time worked and absences.
Extension human resources is working with supervisors to provide employee training, which is expected to be offered starting in mid-September.
