Browsing the Web

  1. Go to http://outreach.missouri.edu/ - The Missouri Outreach and Extension Home Page, find Publications and select it, find XPLOR and select it. In the Search line at the top of the page, enter the query "cool season grasses". Click on "go". Find G06705, "Cool-Season Grasses: Lawn Maintenance Calendar" and select it. Use your "search" or "find" command to find October. Name two things you could be doing for your lawn this month if you aren't on the Internet.

Searching

  • Go to the University Outreach and Extension Web site at http://outreach.missouri.edu and find the mission of University Outreach and Extension.
  • Use at least two search engines to find information on four of the following topics:
    a. What is the weather like in Burlington, Vermont? in Costa Rica?
    b. When should roses be planted in Missouri? (Hint, look in XPLOR at the Outreach and Extension web site)  What care do they need during the year?
    c. Who said, "Be not the first by whom the new are tried, not yet the last to lay the old aside."
    d. Find some information on GMO's.  What are they?  Evaluate the information you found on the evaluation criteria we discussed.
    e. Find out where a man was shot after paying for gasoline on Oct. 9 outside Washington, D.C.
    f. What did the Pilgrims eat on the first Thanksgiving?
    g. Pose a question to a search engine and see if you get useful answers. Please describe what you find.
    h. Search for some information on "parenting". How many hits did you get?
    Narrow your search to some aspect of parenting. How did you narrow your search? How many hits did
    you get?
    Narrow your search to Extension information on this aspect of parenting. How many hits did you get?
    i.  See if you can find figures on E-commerce the government has recently released. What were the September e-sales figures?
