Volunteer Activities Internet Masters can provide a variety of education opportunities which will benefit your community. Some of the more important activities include answering questions about the Internet on help lines, giving demonstrations and presentations on Internet use and access, developing Web sites for community groups, and helping foster use and growth of community information networks. Internet Masters can work with libraries, schools, city and county agencies and other community groups to develop educational opportunities for the citizens of their community. Their volunteer time is valued as partial payment for the training they receive. Examples of Internet Master Volunteer Activities Occurring Now Internet Masters receive 30 hours of training in a wide range of Internet related topics taught by University Extension staff. Topics covered include accessing the Internet, e-mail, e-mail listservs, using the World Wide Web, browsers, search engines, publishing Web pages, other Internet applications such as net conferencing, adult teaching principles and ideas for educational activities. All training is done with classroom demonstrations and instruction using IBM compatible computers, followed by assignments for participants to do on their own computers. A course syllabus can be found here. The fee for the course is $90. To participate in the training without contributing volunteer time, the course fee is $390. Training Time and Location Training sessions are three hours long and are held once each week for 10 weeks. |
