What is the Internet Master Program?

The Internet Master Program is a unique opportunity designed to expand the community's knowledge and skills of the world's newest electronic frontier. . . the Internet. The program provides volunteers with a 30-hour training course on how to access, search, retrieve and post Internet information. The volunteers then apply their training by sharing it with others in their community.

Internet Master can provide the keys

Internet Master volunteers will learn how to use the "information superhighway," then teach people in their community what the Internet offers and how to access, search and retrieve information.

As the Internet becomes an integral part of our culture and society, the skills to use it become as necessary as knowing how to drive. Internet Master volunteers can help bring people in your community up to speed.

Benefits of the Internet Master program

University Outreach and Extension provides Internet Master students 10 weekly training sessions on the use of the Internet. Each student is asked to donate at least 30 volunteer hours in approved teaching and helping activities as partial payment for their training. Internet Master students also receive a text book, handouts, e-mail newsletter, certification as an Internet Master, and opportunities to communicate and learn with other Internet users.

An e-mail group allows Internet Masters to communicate with each other, both during training and after. They discuss volunteer activities, educational programming, and help answer peer questions.

Active Internet Masters will have opportunities for future training to expand their knowledge and keep up to date on the ever-changing Internet technology.

Internet Masters report that this learning increases even more as they teach others what they have learned.  This is considered one of the greatest benefits of the program.
