Building
Strong Families for Missouri, an exciting work in progress. When 90 of 114
Missouri counties identified building strong families as a local program priority,
University of Missouri Extension responded with this seven-session program for working
families with dependents. Local planning groups customize the program by choosing the
seven topics they want to offer. Currently available topics are : Identifying Strengths,
Communicating, Managing Stress, Child Self-Care, Food & Fitness, Working, Setting
Goals, Parenting, Spending, Balancing Work & Family, Alert Consumer, Healthy House,
and Self-Esteem. Building Strong Families is a series of workshops designed to give
families the tools they need to improve communication, learn more about themselves, and
develop into powerful families. Presenting the program will be Human Environmental
Sciences Specialists from MU Extension. The time, location, and
frequency of the workshops will be determined by the local planning group.
Programs for Parents
Parents,
like children, come in all types, sizes and shapes and each parenting situation is
different. The MU Extension Parent Education Program Team has
developed educational programs to reach diverse parent audiences. A variety of resources
and workshops are available to help meet the needs of these audiences: Remarried families,
Employed parents, Single parents, Divorcing parents, Children of divorce, Grandparents
Raising Grandchildren, Parents with Young Children, Fathers, Parents of
Teens, and
Childrens Learning Differences. Information from the National
Network for Family Resiliency, the National Network for Health, and the National Network for Child Care are incorporated in the
content of these workshops. To schedule a workshop, or to enroll, contact Brenda Bell, at
the University of Missouri Extension Center in
