Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle
The Italy location for the Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle study abroad course provides an ideal setting for a three week immersion into the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and way of life. This course will be held in Florence, with educational excursions throughout Tuscany and surrounding regions.

Students will study different aspects of the Mediterranean diet through food and activity-related experiences, like visits to local food markets, producers of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and cheese, as well as participate in food preparation demonstrations and classes. Additionally, students will take a daylong hike through the celebrated Cinque Terre, a string of five coastal villages on the Mediterranean Sea connected by walking paths. They will learn from MU Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and Apicius International School of Hospitality faculty and Mediterranean Diet researcher at the University of Florence, Francesco Sofi, MD, PhD.
