School Wellness

Description: Educates teachers and resource staff about ways they can comply with the new wellness policies, including how they can implement a school wellness policy.

Curriculum/program overview: The overall intention of the School Wellness program is to make children healthier by getting them to adopt healthier eating habits and increasing their physical activity. In the past, teachers have frequently used food as a reward in the classroom; however, this practice teaches children to consume food for reasons other than physical hunger. Through the School Wellness program, teachers will learn about the negative impact of using food as a reward and will learn about alternatives to using food. Teachers will also aid in implementing their school's wellness plan.
