Through the Outreach and Extension function of our College, our specialists take that knowledge to Missourians in the form of educational programming that reaches all corners of the state.

I'm so proud of this dedicated work aimed to assist Missouri families and communities. The impact described in most of these articles is the result of strong cooperative efforts between state and regional Extension specialists, networking with other agencies, and, most importantly, the determination and talent of Missouri citizens.

Impact `99 introduces you to two new outreach faculty in the College of HES—Atiya Mahmood in the Environmental Design Department and Dale Brigham in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department. We are delighted to have these two talented faculty on our team.

In this Impact issue we are sharing with you our educational efforts that address key issues facing Missouri families—child care, adolescent decision-making, affordable housing, education and support of parents, nutrition and health, and managing of family resources.

As Impact `99 goes to press, I will have less than a year left of my time at MU, due to my retirement in December 1999. So, this is a good time for me to tell you what a pleasure it has been to work with HES Outreach and Extension faculty at the community level and those on campus. Be assured, Missouri families are being supported by a dedicated, passionate, and hard-working group of HES specialists! They are so knowledgeable. More importantly, they care about you!

Sincerely,
Barb Froke
