Use MyPyramid to help you eat better every day,
the Dietary Guidelines way. Start with plenty of whole grain foods:
Eat at least 3 ounces of whole grain breads, cereals, rice and
pasta. Eat a variety of vegetables and remember to include dark
green vegetables and orange vegetables. Choose a variety of fresh,
frozen, canned or dried fruits, but choose whole fruit more often
than fruit juice. Eat low-fat or fat-free dairy products to get
enough calcium. Complete your pyramid with lean meats, fish,
poultry, beans, nuts and seeds. Always remember to bake, broil or
boil your selections rather than frying them.
Each of these food groups provides some, but not
all, of the nutrients we need for good health. No food group is more
important than the others. We need to eat foods from them all. Limit
solid fat (butter, stick margarine, shortening and lard) in your
diet -- these foods help make other foods taste good, but they are
rich in calories.
