Focus on Kidsa divorce education program through University of Missouri Extension
As of August 28, 1998, Missouri law mandated parent education for divorcing parents. Each judicial circuit has the opportunity to develop or contract for programming related to this mandate. University Extension has a research-based program available called Focus on Kids. Focus On Kids is a 2-1/2 hour research-based curriculum developed by the Human Development and Family Studies Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia. This curriculum is designed for parents with minor children who are divorcing. The program is currently offered in 42 Missouri counties. The program covers the following information:
Lisa Wallace, Extension Human Development Specialist headquartered in Henry County has a master’s degree and presents the program locally. It is ideal for the program to be co-presented by male and female presenters for obvious reasons. However, in rural counties with relatively low numbers of participants, co-presenting isn’t always possible. Registration: Registration is handled by the Extension Center. $35 fee is paid per person; a judge may waive the fee if the client is unable to pay. Time of Sessions: 5:30 until 8:00pm Location of Sessions: Courthouse basement A comprehensive evaluation is done at the end of each session. Annual results are available upon request. 2008 Dates for FOK and Mediation Classes For further information on Focus on Kids, give Lisa Wallace a call at (660) 885-5556.
