1999 HEED Fund Grant Success Stories

Divorcing Parents Support

A HEED Fund grant has been able to provide additional support to divorcing parents in Callaway and Randolph counties.   HEED funds were used to purchase several highly recommended books about divorce and establish a lending library at Focus On Kids (FOK) class sites in both counties.  FOK is a court-mandated parent education program for divorcing parents.  The purpose of the lending library is to assist families going through the divorce process through the use of both children's literature and adult self-help books.  In addition to starting the lending library, the grant enabled an evaluation to be conducted in these counties to determine the extent to which individuals use self-help books during their divorces.  Art Schneider, Regional Human Development Specialist and HEED Fund grant recipient, is pictured with Lisa Brewer, FOK attendee.  For more information about divorcing parents, link to:  http://outreach.missouri.edu/cooper/fok
