Advocacy
for
Children |
| The Missouri Association for Family and
Community Education (FCE) participated in Child Advocacy Day in January at the Capitol in
Jefferson City, MO. Forty-two Missouri FCE members were in attendance. The members
participated in educational workshops and delivered approximately 250 dolls to Missouri
legislators. A letter was attached to each doll encouraging legislators to remember
children and families as they vote on legislation. Legislators were also asked to take
their dolls to organizations in their districts that deal with children, such as abuse
centers, day care centers, survival shelters, or elementary schools. With the assistance
from a HEED Fund grant, FCE members were supported in their advocacy for Missouris
children and families. Debbie Weigand, FCE Family Life Education Chairperson, coordinated
the activities. She is pictured on the Capitol steps, along with many other FCE members
and their dolls, with timely messages for legislators. |
