Action Strategies Toolkit.
The strategies outlined in this toolkit are divided into several policy
areas in order to increase awareness of the promising evidence-based
policy options to reduce childhood obesity. To facilitate ease of use
among policy-makers with various jurisdictions and areas of expertise,
this toolkit has been organized into two main sections – Active Living
and the Built Environment, and Healthy Eating – each of which is further
divided into subsections.

Those interested in creating health and fitness policy change in their
school system may find these few PowerPoint slides and notes valuable
when first engaging the key stakeholders: administration, parents, etc.
This accompanies the “School Wellness Inventory Form” (below). This
presentation was originally presented to the Missouri Foundation for
Health Peer to Peer training workshop in 2009.

Wellness Inventory Form
This instrument is a universal school wellness tool that can be used
to develop, implement, evaluate and continuously improve school wellness
policies and related wellness activities. This tool is discussed in
the “School Wellness Policies – Engaging Stakeholders” PowerPoint (above).

– Success Stories
This document includes a variety of success stories from schools and
districts that have improved the healthfulness of their food and beverage
offerings while simultaneously maintaining or increasing total revenue
from food and beverage sales. Some common factors of success and key
take-aways are also provided.
- Overcoming Challenges to Adopting
and Implementing School Food & Beverage Guidelines
This is a PowerPoint presentation from the Alliance for a Healthier
Generation. The presentation provides a clear explanation of the guidelines
for food and beverages in public schools, the options for negotiating
with bottling companies for healthier options for schools, and the challenges
and solutions to those challenges facing school personnel desiring healthier
options for their students.
