Healthy Lifestyle Initiative
Dale E.
Brigham, Ph.D.
Years lived in Missouri: Since 1977
Original Hometown: Lubbock, TX
Education:
Professional Background: Since 1980, I have been in the nutrition and physical activity field as a graduate student, teacher/professor, laboratory researcher, clinical practitioner, public health worker, and state extension specialist. I have worked in health care, university, and government settings. My most recent appointment with MU Extension is as the co-director of the Healthy Lifestyle Initiative.
Why I am passionate about my job: Healthy food and physical activity bring so much to health and quality of life. I have seen tremendous transformations occur in the lives of people who have improved their diets and increased their level of physical activity. I have seen communities revitalized by improving access to healthy foods and physical activity opportunities. I want to continue to help make those changes happen.
If I weren't doing this for a living: I would be leading bicycling tours combined with culinary arts, nutrition, and exercise instruction.
What I do for fun:
Bicycling, cooking, and reading. Family: I have been married since 2001 to my wife, Dr.
Jo Turner. We have three orange tabby cats named Lester, Little
Red, and Frankie. Favorite place in Missouri: Whichever rural road I am riding my bike on at the moment.
