Technical/Evaluation Assistance Information

The Center on Adolescent Sexuality, Pregnancy and Parenting (CASPP) at the University of Missouri, Columbia, can provide on-site technical/evaluation assistance and resource materials to start a MVRM program anywhere in the United States. A two-year contract with CASPP includes:

Site Visits:
CASPP staff will provide four one-day on-site visits to assist in establishing an MVRM program. Topics covered are individualized to meet community needs, but some examples are: developing a mission and goals, conducting a community needs assessment, finding financial support, recruiting mentors and teens, retaining mentors and teens, and initiating program evaluation.

On-going support:
The MVRM Program Coordinator will assist you with development of strategies to meet program-specific outcomes, provide telephone and e-mail consultation as needed, and assist with grant writing.

A two-day, training workshop for MVRM Program Facilitators that covers all aspects of program development, administration, community relations, grant funding, etc. will be offered at least annually.

Resources:
The MVRM manual includes 170 pages of practical information with separate sections for the program coordinator and mentor. The manual is illustrated with photographs from MVRM programs. Quotes from mentors and teens are interspersed throughout the manual.

Access to Resources:
University of Missouri-approved consent forms are available for participants, program coordinator(s), and mentors. Services from the University of Missouri generally available to faculty such as legal advice, audits, graphic design, etc. may be accessed for your program. You may also use the MVRM logo on your program publications, if desired.

MVRM Listserv:
The listserv connects individual MVRM programs in order to ask questions and share ideas. The list serve content will include periodic newsletters, grant opportunities, information related to adolescent pregnancy and parenting, ideas for group meetings/activities, and problem solving.

Video:
The 12-minute MVRM video contains interviews with program participants and pilot program coordinators. It also provides an overview of the pilot program, the research goals, and results of the pilot program evaluation. The MVRM manual includes 170 pages of practical information with separate sections for the program coordinator and mentor. The manual is illustrated with photographs from MVRM programs. Quotes from mentors and teens are interspersed throughout the manual.

Research Report:
The 81-page research report contains both quantitative and qualitative data on the effectiveness of the pilot project. The report describes the impact on teens’ potential for child abuse, mental health, physical health, and parenting attitudes, as well as the activities mentors and teens did together, their feelings about the program, and the issues in the teens’ lives dealt with during the pilot program.

Reprints of published articles related to MVRM and adolescent pregnancy and parenting will be distributed as they are available.

Program Evaluation:
One of the most challenging, but important parts of any program is evaluation. CASPP has designed research instruments that can be adapted for use by MVRM programs. CASPP will provide program-specific evaluation instruments and analyze the data collected from individual programs. Pre-printed scan forms for adolescent and mentors and related data processing are provided. A final written summary of research findings after data is received will be written.
