The gardens are placed from urban to rural areas and contain everything from a water garden to large flower beds to vegetables and fruits. Learn how to keep your cucumbers off of the ground in a very ingenious way, and see what plants thrive in our challenging soil conditions.
Gisela’s garden salutes her European heritage and reflects her love of fruit and vegetables as well as flowers. She makes use of a tree trunk in a unique way that adds beauty to her garden. You will find original garden art in surprising places. Take a stroll through her shaded hosta walk.
Jill is a busy mother who involves her family with the garden. Her creative use of outgrown play equipment makes the garden special for the children. Jill also has a vegetable garden that tempts visitors with tomatoes. You will get many ideas from Jill for how to involve your family in your garden.
Chris has faced challenges of a sloping yard with runoff issues and wildlife. She started with a blank canvas and has painted a collection of themed garden beds using the “lasagna” method. You may very well see some beautiful butterflies while strolling her garden. Chris will be glad to share what worked in her garden and how she solved her challenges.
Jeanie and her husband travel a lot, so they came up with a unique way to irrigate her garden beds and even the pots on her deck, all invisible to the eye. Jeanie likes to incorporate tomatoes right in her flower bed. She has several soothing fountains and some very colorful annuals. It may be tempting, but the grapes on her arbor won’t be ripe yet.
Richard has an acreage and loves to take advantage of the space with sweeping flower beds of perennials as well as colorful annuals. He has both sun and shade beds and mature trees. Richard also demonstrates his love of home grown vegetables with his large vegetable garden.
Sherry also has an acreage and has the garden that every serious gardener would like to have, with her own greenhouse and shade house. She also has a beautiful large water feature, a screened summer house, and various seating areas positioned to view the garden. See if you can find her hidden garden.
There will be a plant sale at Sherry’s country garden during the tour. The plants have been raised by Master Gardeners and traditionally include a wide variety of perennials, shrubs, roses, native plants, annuals, vegetables, and herbs. Tickets will be available at the locations listed below by June 1. The day of the tour tickets will be available at the gardens. For more information, call 816-252-5051 or 816-833-8733.
