Work at Home Scams
Work at home offers? You find them in the classifieds. Maybe
you've seen them posted on telephone poles. And more and more, they're on
the Internet. Luring consumers with guarantees they can't deliver.
They promise high income, no risk, and a chance to make your own hours.
They target stay-at-home parents, students, seniors, immigrants, and
people with disabilities who may be housebound. Many ads omit the fact that you may
have to work many hours without pay. Or they don't disclose all the costs
you will have to pay.
If you're considering a work-at-home offer, the Federal Trade Commission
says, "get all the details and the refund policies in writing."
And don't fall for a high-pressure sales pitch.
The Federal Trade Commission wants to help you recognize and report fraud.
