Ways to Pay for College

The cost of higher education has risen dramatically. Increases have made it more difficult for families to pay for college. But difficult is not the same as impossible. Opportunities exist with proper planning, a little creativity, being smart about leveraging finances and extensive homework.

College Parents of America offers these suggestions to help families pay for college:

  • Start early with savings plans. Even setting aside $25-50 a month, the earlier you start, the more significant your savings will be.

  • Comparison shop. Some schools are more affordable than others.

  • Attend a more affordable school, such as a community college, for the first two years.

  • Consider letting Uncle Sam pay the bills. Military service makes education affordable.
