Missouri 4-H helps communities create
opportunities for young people to be valued, contributing
members. 4-H connects kids with caring adults for
learning-by-doing experience in organized clubs, enrichment
programs, special-interest groups, camps and school-aged child
care programs.
As a part of the University of Missouri and
Lincoln University, 4-H is based on research to help children
and teens become competent, caring, contributing and capable.
4-H is one of the largest youth organizations in
the nation, with more than 6.8 million participants and more
than 610,000 youth and adult volunteers.
4-H comes in many forms:
4-H Clubs are for youths, ages 8-18. Club
members select learning projects, practice leadership skills and
carry out community service. Adult volunteers lead 4-H clubs in
community settings. 4-H club members have opportunities
throughout the year to participate in contests, fairs,
educational trips and camps. Most 4-H clubs meet at least once a
month.

DID YOU KNOW? |
| The
first 4-H emblem was a three-leaf
clover, introduced sometime between 1907
and 1908. The three "H's" represented
head, heart and hands. In 1911, at a
meeting of club leaders in Washington, a
fourth "H" representing health was added
and the current 4-H four-leaf clover
emblem was approved. It is protected by
the U.S. Congress. |

4-H Clover Kids is for children, ages 5-7. Adult volunteers
plan and lead educational and fun activities to help kids
develop social skills and to learn by doing.
4-H School Enrichment programs provide
teachers with classroom learning experiences. "Hatching Chicks
in the Classroom" is one of the most popular.
4-H Special Activities and Interests are
unique to the community, reaching out to young people and
families for short-term programs. 4-H works closely with other
community groups to offer conferences, distance learning
programs, day camps, volunteer training and more.
