Show Me Nutrition Education Displays

The Show Me Nutrition Education Displays are professionally designed bulletin board displays with handouts that feature researched-based information from the University of Missouri Extension. They are designed for teachers and school staff. They can provide training for teachers and staff and support school wellness policies. They are portable and can be used in a variety of settings and provide visibility for FNEP and University of Missouri Extension.

The primary target audience is food stamp eligible and youth. The Show Me Nutrition Education Displays are designed to reach teachers who will take the information into the classroom and share with their students. With these displays we are “training trainers” to deliver good nutrition messages.

Teachers will gain nutrition and wellness knowledge from viewing the displays and sharing that knowledge with their students either by teaching them concepts or by setting a good example in choosing healthier foods and increasing their physical activity.

NPAs in the schools will set up displays and collect match.

These displays are being developed by Pattie Jones, NPA, SE Region.

Guidelines for using the Displays and the school staff sign-in sheet, may be found at:  http://extension.missouri.edu/fnep/teaching.htm. Display pieces may be downloaded for use in regions. The library of displays will be expanded as new displays are developed.

Match

Staff person (NPA) hosting the display in their school collects match. The standard match form is used. Staff sign-in sheets are used to support in-kind match collected (see Staff sign in form file).

Teachers/school staff view the displays and document how much time they spent and if they plan to use the information.

Since teachers have the most interaction with students, teacher time spent with the displays may be matched. The criteria used to collect match is as follows: If read information-1/2 hour If read handouts- 1 hour Answered the question, will you use the information in the classroom? Yes-1 hour No- 0 hour Maybe-1/2 hour
