CYFAR Self-Study Learning Opportunity

Module 2:  Missouri CYFAR Resources

page 2
Overview:  Projects funded through the CYFAR New Communities Projects (NCP)

The Missouri statewide CYFAR project was named the Family and Community Resource Program (FCRP).  The overall goal of FCRP was to provide holistic, high quality educational experiences for low income Missourians. A  multidisciplinary, statewide team of MU Extension educators and their partners developed the FCRP program.

Leadership for FCRP was given by Dr. Ina Linville, interim program leader for Missouri Center for 4-H Youth Development, and Dr. Jo Britt Rankin, program leader and Associate Dean of Human Environmental Sciences Extension. The project director for FCRP was Tammy Gillespie who reported to both Dr. Linville and Dr. Britt-Rankin.

FCRP supported community-based projects located throughout rural and urban locations in Missouri:

  • 4-H LIFE Program
  • Parenting Pointers
  • Effective Black Parenting
  • West End Community Center Afterschool program and Teen Leader Group
  • Irondale Community Computer Lab
  • West County Afterschool Computer Program
  • Kingston K-14 Computer Program
  • Violence prevention efforts

FCRP Web-based Tools
In addition to supporting innovative community-based programs, CYFAR funding has been used to develop a variety of helpful web-based tools for Extension faculty as they work with low income and at risk youth and families.

A FCRP web site was created to support FCRP projects with the goal of expanding MU Extension's capacity for implementing programs that reflect the CYFAR philosophy of developing and delivering educational programs that equip at risk and low income youth and families to lead positive, productive, contributing lives.

Although the FCRP website has been replaced to reflect the new CYFAR Sustainable Community Projects (SCP) funding goals, there are several items of interest and useful resources available as a result of the NCP projects.

  • Output Tracking - Color-coded Excel forms that can be used to track participation, volunteer hours, and trainings
  • Computer Skills Assessment - Award-winning instrument including a facilitator's guide to help measure the computer skills of computer lab participants.
  • Evaluation Resources - General information that includes a life skills survey and information about outcome measures and focus groups.
